STAND UP COMEDY
2001-2025: 25 years of LJMU Stand-up Comedy the Final Curtain

7th & 8th May

8PM @ Joe H Makin Workshop

And so, as the Joe H Makin building gets ready to close its doors on over 30 years of glorious live theatre making, we invite you to our final, Stand-up Comedy Event to ever be staged within its walls!

For 25 years generations of LJMU Drama students have “screwed their courage to the sticking point” and got up at a live event with one intention: to make people laugh. It’s just them, a mic, and their wit. It’s one of the hardest things they’ll do, and it will be, as it’s always been, one of the greatest nights of the department.

From serious politics to family Christmases, from ice cream wars to misbehaving dogs. We’ve had comedy as a personal journey and as personal salvation. We’ve had gags and stories; costume and absurd characters; we’ve had grandmas remembered and cherished. Comedy is always at the edge of a changing world and there’s something here for everyone!

The world is big and there’s a lot that pokes fun at us... but there’s lots we can poke fun at too! This is the Last Hurrah…we look forward to one last wild and wacky night!

Nina is a showgirl, but she’s not just any showgirl. As the longstanding favourite performer of the notorious ‘business owner’ Charles Huxley, Nina has a reputation to uphold. And since naming his most successful bar after her, he cannot risk losing his favourite girl. After all, she is his best act. If she went missing...God knows what would happen!

So, if you hear a rumour, or a murmur of a plan to escape, who will you tell?

Join us at Arts Bar Baltic, A.K.A ‘Nina’s’ for a night of gossip, dance, whispers of a scandal and, most importantly...jazz!

THE LAST WEEKEND

Saturday 10th May

11am onwards @ Joe H Makin

No tickets required, just turn up and have fun!

As LJMU Drama leaves the Joe H Makin, we want to take a moment to celebrate the work we have made here over the last 30 years and the people who have made it.

The building will be open from 11-6, for you to come and have a wander around the building that has inspired so many of us over the years. We will fill it with photos, posters and stories that capture the spirit of drama at the Joe H and it's a chance to catch up with old friends or make new ones, over a cup of tea.

Throughout the day, there will be pop up performances that will remind us of all the joys of opening doors in the building, never quite sure what we might stumble on.

5pm: We will all gather for a finale and a toast.

8pm-12pm: A chance to carry on the celebrations in Studio Three at the Arts Bar with music and much more.
